Something's not right with the electric
First, the honest disclosure
Drive Electric is a selective, appointment-based practice — I don't run 24/7 emergency dispatch. If you have an active electrical emergency — sparking, smoke, burning smell, anything hot to the touch — shut off that breaker and call 911 or LG&E's outage line first. For everything else, send photos and you'll hear from me within one business day.
Common problems and what they usually mean
- Breaker trips repeatedly: overloaded circuit, failing breaker, or a real fault — the pattern tells which
- Dead outlets on one wall: often an upstream device or a failed splice, not the outlet you're staring at
- Lights flicker under load: loose neutral or an undersized circuit doing double duty
- Warm switch or outlet plates: worth photos today, not next month
- Two-prong outlets everywhere: an older-house grounding conversation, with honest options at more than one price
Why licensed troubleshooting matters
Half of electrical repair is knowing what NOT to touch until the real cause is found. Chasing symptoms with parts-swapping leaves the fault in the wall. A licensed diagnosis follows the circuit, names the cause, and fixes that — permitted and inspected where the work requires it.
What the process looks like
Photos of the panel, the misbehaving outlet/switch/fixture, and anything that looks off → my read on the likely causes and a scoped quote → an appointment where the diagnosis gets confirmed with meters before anything is replaced → photo proof of the fix and what caused it.
What it costs — honestly
Diagnostic-and-repair work is quoted, not metered by the hour into the unknown. The photo review means you get a realistic range before booking, and if the photos already show the answer, the quote says exactly that. If your problem is really a symptom of a panel or service issue, you'll get that conversation straight — see the panel upgrades page for how that's priced.
Questions we actually get
Is a tripping breaker dangerous?
A breaker doing its job isn't the danger — whatever is making it trip might be. Repeated trips are the circuit telling you something. Photos of the panel and what's plugged in on that circuit usually narrow it fast.
Do you handle emergencies?
Not as a dispatch service, and I won't pretend otherwise. Active emergency: breaker off, 911 or LG&E. Once it's safe, send photos and I'll prioritize honestly.
Half my outlets stopped working but no breaker is tripped. What is that?
Classic sign of a failed connection upstream — often a backstabbed outlet or a lost neutral. It's one of the most common calls in older Louisville houses and very fixable once the right box is found.
Can you just tell me what it is from photos?
Sometimes, genuinely yes. Often I can narrow it to two suspects and quote the diagnosis-plus-fix honestly. What I won't do is guess-and-charge.
